Washington State stands among the nation’s “R1” doctoral universities—those that the Carnegie Foundation has found to have the highest levels of research expenditures, doctoral conferrals, and research staff. It applies more than $300 million in annual research and development expenditures to address the unique challenges of the 21st century.
